|Description:||This position is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the Authority’s strategic internal and external communications activities, public relations initiatives and media strategies.|
|Duties:||Plans, coordinates and manages the development and implementation of appropriate, understandable, and meaningful external messages; manages production of informational materials including customer information, Web, and social media content, letters, speeches, advertisements, presentations and brochures for Communications staff and other departments, President/CEO, Board of Trustees and Leadership Team. |
Produces, implements, and manages a strategic internal communications plan for COTA employees and Board of Trustees, including, but not limited to, drafting and publishing weekly newsletter, electronic and internet/intranet communications, and other announcements and communications.
Produces, and provides information for print and electronic media regarding COTA activities, events and issues; disseminates information through news releases to local, trade and national media; establishes relationships and maintains regular contact with reporters and other members of the media and assists and supports the Vice President of Communications, Marketing and Customer Service with media relations responsibilities.
Prepares talking points, speeches, power point presentations and reports and ensures that the content of staff presentations, etc., is factual and consistent in content and style.
Serves as liaison between the Communications Department and the Marketing Department to co-produce and coordinate projects and events.
Assists in the planning and execution of internal and external special projects and events.
Serves as COTA’s liaison and spokesperson at special events, community events and COTA partnership functions, as directed.
Performs other communications, media relations and public relations functions as assigned.

|Qualifications:||Must have a minimum of a four (4) year college degree in Communications, Journalism, English and/or Public and Media Relations; a strong background in the liberal arts is desired and a viable combination of education and work experience may be considered. |
Must have at least five (5) or more years of experience in a public relations, communications, print or broadcast journalism or media relations environment.
Must have excellent writing and editing skills and be able to demonstrate thorough understanding of journalistic writing style; desktop publishing experience is preferred.
Must have excellent public speaking and communications skills and be able to speak to the media and before groups in an organized, polished and articulate manner.
Must be available to COTA management, COTA emergency response teams and the news media outside of regular work hours in order to react and respond to crisis situations.
Must have excellent human relations and diplomacy skills and the ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of various target audiences (i.e., COTA employees, customers, taxpayers, public officials, citizens/community groups, news media, etc.).
